How old are your kids ? Shouldn't they have the right to choose their beliefs ?
I guess we all have a choice in certain matters. However, can we choose our parents or our siblings?
No we cannot choose our family but we can choose to believe in God or not. In this case I believe in God so the rules of my home include the God of the Holy Bible.
It was a personal choice for me, and I extend it lovingly to my children, whom embrace it fully, not coercively.
This world has written rules everywhere that we must follow and so does our home. The only difference is we write them not someone else.
So what are your written rules?
I didn't mean to pick a fight with a fellow Canadian, trust me ;)
It's just that I'm 100% atheist and always have a hard time to understand religion, although I do respect it.
Nothing in these rules you set is weird, most of them are common-sense. At least I guess I would go by these kind of rules if I had kids, but I'm 24 so, not yet for me :D
What bother me is influencing kids. Religion, politics or whatever the parents believe in are not always going to be the kids beliefs.
No problem fellow Canadian of mine I did not consider it a fight but a good conversation. Good conversation always includes others view points. Its like brain-storming all ideas are good to mention, but one usually will win over all others.
I suggest you look at my post "An Atheist & Christian Conversation" and see if that helps you understand better.
To Zhu,
You may call them "beliefs". I call them "truths". I will teach my kids "truths". You said, "What bothers me is influencing kids". Well, someone is going to influence them one way or another. The best influence for them is their parents, not the cursing, drug smoking, premarital sex high school kids they see from 8:00 - 3:00 pm. Also, as an atheist who has a "hard time understanding religion" I implore you to pick up "A Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel or "More Than a Carpenter" by Josh McDowell. Both are easy reads and will share with you a truth that leaves little doubt. Good luck in your search.
