Perseverance...
The art of staying the course. It embodies loyalty, faith, determination, purpose, and consistency. Remeber the verses that compares our faith to running a race you can find them at;
PSALM 19
ECCLESIASTES 9
1 CORINTHIANS 9
2 TIMOTHY 4
HEBREWS 12
As we run, we must always remember why we run and keep in mind that if we want to see change we must first become the change we want to see. Just like an athlete trains his body and mind so must we, train our bodies and minds in the faith of Jesus Christ. As knowledge set you up for that training, perseverance sets the bar for your success. Knowing why you run is very important to your success of adding perseverance to your faith.
Ask yourself why you believe and internalize it. Then verbalize it and tell others why you believe what you believe and allow them and God to work out the details. Do not conform to the world, rather believe that God can work in anyone just as He has worked in you. Tell your story of why you believe not just for others but for yourself as well. Use it as reminder to add perseverance to your faith.

Self-Control...
When we control ourselves we are exercising our God given right to freedom of choice. Instead of giving in to what we want, we are happy instead with just what we need. But what does the bible teach about self-control?
Consider; Psalm 16
Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust.
Trusting in God through Jesus Christ is the beginning of self-control. Self-control demonstrated through our efforts to run to the love of God is by far the best testimony one could have for others. Rather than try to change others we are to conform ourselves to what God intended us to be. And through that transformation become living examples of Self-Control. Not by words but by action. For we are judged at every turn and rather than insisting others conform we must be their example by our own transformation. Well if Uncle Joe can do it, so can I.
Consider reading Romans 6-7
When we recognize that the only thing we can change is ourselves then we can begin to heal and work our way through the rest of The Walk of a Christian with full and awesome knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
We can change no other but ourselves...

Knowledge...
Knowledge is available to anyone that will take the liberty and freedom they possess to search for it. However with great knowledge comes great responsibility. Consider that if you knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that a truck was going to hit the blind man whistling and cane waving across the road right in front of you, at what point would you after yelling to him to be aware, and still he continues on his merry way whistling and waving, unaware of his ultimate demise, at what point do you get physical and move him from harms way?
Consider this verse JOHN 6:44
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.
Interesting verse isn't it? Now lets look at the verses to either side of that one.
43. "Stop grumbling among yourselves," Jesus answered.
44. "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.
45. It is written in the Prophets: 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.
What were they grumbling about and why did Jesus say what he did and who were they? In order to find out you must read the whole chapter. Please get your bible or go here and read the whole chapter JOHN CHAPTER 6
Alrighty then, all done, lots of information there huh? Now in order to grab an even better understanding one must read the whole book of John. The theme of the book of John is; Knowing God by believing in Jesus Christ. So go ahead open up and begin reading before you continue reading here. If you don't have a bible, then here are several ways to get one into your computer for free.
E-SWORD - The sword of the Lord with an electronic edge
BiblePro for Windows - Free download
Theophilos Bible Software - Multilingual application for bible and Christian study
MacSword - Bible study software for Mac OS X
Now lets go back to the original verse JOHN 6:44 and consider what exactly Jesus is saying there. Is he saying that only those the Father selects and draws may be converted? I think that, that is exactly what he is saying, so none can boast.
There are other passage that can help us to understand such as;
EPHESIANS 2:8-9 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
ROMANS 3:11-12 - there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.
JOHN 5:39-40 - You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
JOHN 15:18 - If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.

Virtue...
Imagine for a moment if you will that your mind is a steel trap that it is such a good steel trap that it locks up with such ferociousness that anything in it's grasp cannot escape. I have a friend well maybe he is not truly a friend but more like an friendly associate/adherent. He always say's this about the mind "garbage in, garbage out". Now lets try together to apply this concept to our lives.
Lets say someone decides to take out there frustration on us and if we decide to bite back even though we previously were in a good mood. Were we truly in a good mood to begin with? The practice of a virtuous response would be like the commercial of the guy that chews Juicy Fruit bubble gum you know the commercial he gets home and his clothing is ripped his hair is all mussed and he's simply a mess. His sister yells out and says "Mom Billy was chewing Juicy Fruit again". With single minded purpose we must train ourselves to enjoy the fruit of the spirit outlined in Galatians 5:22-23, that which is;
love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
When we add virtue to our gift of faith we are moving from the unconscious into the conscious realm and making a decision that is both deliberate and purposeful.

Faith...
8. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
9. not of works, lest anyone should boast.
FAITH is a gift from God so none can boast. Such as; my church is better than your church, my denomination is godlier then yours, or my church is the the only true church, I am a better Christian because of what I do, etc. Faith comes from God and allows us the privilege of believing in Jesus Christ the Son of God Almighty. FAITH is NOT denominational nor does it come through good works of any kind.
Everyone that has lived or is living today has thought about God at some point. This is the seed of FAITH that God has giving to all mankind. When we consciously choose to explore this gift we enter a different realm from the one we have known. It is the realm of God, were we as sinners are loved so much that God sacrificed a part of himself so that we lowly human sinners might have life through Jesus Christ. It is also a realm where a healthy fear of God is born in the repentant sinner so that he/she might finish the good works started in them.
When we first get the revelation of faith or become Christians were we repent of our sin and believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God we are intoxicated with the revelation that faith brings with it to our poor souls. That is the reason why most folks who become Christians are on fire telling everyone the good news, until they begin to loose steam. Here we come to a crossroad the place were the fear of man or fear of God has a battle inside us. If we choose the fear of man we lose because fearing man makes the gift of FAITH neutral or makes us luke-warm believers and unworthy to be called sons of God.
Whereas the fear of God allows us to complete the good work that was started in us through the gift of FAITH. If you have faith and you know it is a gift from God and have thankfully accepted it the I encourage you to add to your FAITH... VIRTUE

The Walk of a Christian...
If you ask anybody this question the answer should more than likely be the same for everyone;
Q. What is the only one thing that you truly have control over?
A. Yourself
In second Peter chapter 1 verse six it says to add to your knowledge SELF-CONTROL something that we must do in our walk as Christians (believers of Jesus Christ) is exercise our SELF-CONTROL daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, throughout our lifetime.
However we are getting ahead of ourselves because all to often we fail to exercise our SELF-CONTROL at some point and loose our tempers. The bible has a sure fire way for us to get control of ourselves and to understand what we as believers must do.
The answer lies at 2 PETER 1:3-11
3. as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
4. by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Fruitful Growth in the Faith <--- (most bibles have this heading before verse five)
5. But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6. to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
7. to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
8. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
10. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;
11. for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Over the next month or so we are going to focus on what we must do to have a fruitful knowledge of Jesus Christ and help make us effective believers in Jesus Christ. So tell your family, friends, and associates to tune in as we delve into what we need to do to be the best believers we can be.

Easy Christian Solutions to LIfe's Problems...
Below is a guest post by Karen Anderson...
Easy Christian Solutions to Life’s Problems
If there’s one thing that can be said with certainty about life, it’s that it is not easy. We are beset with problems at every turn, and not all of them have visible or viable solutions. So unless we learn how to cope with them, we’re going to end up becoming victims of stress. I’ve learned through experience that one of the best ways to deal with stress and reduce its detrimental effects on our life and our health is through religion. Spirituality can work wonders in helping you find solutions to life’s problems, so if you’re looking for answers, here are a few Christian solutions to the common ills that plague you:
· M Money: It’s not an exaggeration to say that the world revolves around money. Without this manmade concept of riches, we would have no life. And even though money is not everything, we do need enough of it to live satisfactorily. So if you’re having money trouble, the best way to get over it is to analyze your spending habits and make the necessary amends. Remember the parable of the talents where God rewarded his servants who had used their money to make more money and punished the one who was too cowardly to invest it wisely? Well, there’s a lesson we can learn from this story – it pays to spend less than what we earn and also put away an amount that accrues interest and will stand us in good stead in the event of a rainy day.
· R Relationships: No man is an island and we need other people for our emotional and sometimes even physical needs. Whenever any relationship in your hits a problem or goes through a bad patch, all you need to do is remember the commandment that says – Love your neighbor as you love yourself – the neighbor here refers to your loved one. And when you love them as much as you love yourself, you see things in a different light. It’s not all about you and you’re able to understand their feelings as well. This positive outlook changes your relationships for the better.
· W Work: To be successful at work and avoid problems at your workplace, all you need to do is take heed of the fourth commandment – Observe the Sabbath as a holy day and work diligently on the other six days of the week. When you follow this to the letter, you not only get all your work done efficiently and on time, you also prevent yourself from falling prey to stress and overwork by taking adequate rest and rejuvenating yourself on Sunday.
Our lives revolve around money, friends, family and work, not necessarily in that order. By using lessons from the Bible wisely, it’s easy to solve any problems we may face.

An Easter Obituary Revisited...
Have we grown callous about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ during the Easter season? Are we truly aware of what Jesus gave so we could live? What does turkey and Easter bunnies have to do with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ?
I got this image in an email and it thoroughly inspired me to share it here lest we forget the reason why we believe as we do in a Saviour Jesus Christ.
FACTS ABOUT THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS:
- Historically, the first known practice of crucifixion was by thePersian Empire. Alexander the Great and his generals brought it back to the Mediterranean world through Egypt and through Carthage. Apparently The Romans learned the practice from The Carthaginians and as was the Roman way with almost everything that they did, they quickly developed a very high degree of efficiency and skill at it.
- The agony for Jesus began in Gethsemane with what Luke described in Chapter 22 verse 44; "And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground." There is a rare condition called 'Hematidrosis' where tiny capillaries in the sweat glands can break, thus mixing blood with sweat. Perhaps this was Jesus' condition.
- After Jesus' arrest at Gethsemane he was brought before the Sanhedrin where the first blow was wrought by a zealous guard he was then blindfolded and taunted and hit repeatedly by others asking him to prophesy who hit him.
- Pilate ordered Jesus brutally beaten, probably believing such punishment would satisfy the ugly mob, but as we know it did not. The punishment of scourging was not enough for the angry mob that day they demanded more and crucifixion the Roman way would guarantee His death.
- Already exhausted and dehydrated from the torture of the previous night and day Jesus is made to carry his cross to the place of his souls release Mount Calvary or Golgotha, the place of the skull.
- Jesus was betrayed by a trusted friend (Judas) and by of all things a kiss to mark him as the man the Sanhedrin sought. Have you ever noticed of all the biblical names used today, the name Judas is not one of them!
- Jesus rose from the dead three days later and was seen by not one or two eye witnesses but over a forty (40) day period he was seen by over five hundred (500) people.
- Jesus left us a great commission to spread the gospel but sadly 90% of Christians fail to share their faith with others. WHY?
- Is it fear?
- Is it Laziness?
- Is it business?
- Allow me to put this into perspective for you most people will call and tell everyone about the birth of a child because they are excited about that fact. Or call people to tell of the new house or SUV they purchased. The new job they got. Little Billies graduation, etc...
- Are we as Christians not excited about what Jesus did for us?
- Are we ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ?
- Are we fearful of other people and what they may think of us if they knew we believed in Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour?
The Lord bless and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;

Interesting Facts...
The plague of paganism has so infiltrated the Christian walk that it is undeniable to those that are watching and the history of the church gives no good excuse for the actions of the past. Breaking away from The Roman Catholic church was not enough. For that was only the beginning of our problems and the sin of denominational divergence. Consider that the Christian walk is plainly stated in 2 Peter 1:3-11 and if that route is taking and absorbed in the believer that he would as the scripture states. "Be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ". So I challenge you that stating facts about denominational divergence is not criticizing if given in the right attitude. An attitude of love for those that hear you.
Was Jesus criticizing when he prayed for all believers to be one as He and the Father are one in John 17?
Here is another fact this time in Ephesians 6; "We fight not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places". If we look back at Ephesians 2 we find that we are saved through faith, a gift from God not of ourselves or works so that none could boast. Denominational divergence has the spirit of exclusivity and sectarianism at its heart. And the battle for unity has been raging since the belief of Christianity was first usurped by the Roman Empire and turned into a religion. Also consider that in 2 Peter 1:5 that it is assumed that faith is already there by saying "for this very reason giving all diligence add to your faith".
Along with the spirit of exclusivity and sectarianism comes the spirit of pride, being proud of denomination. If you choose to overlook this as not sin that is your prerogative. It is the sin of pride that caused Satan to fall and causes man to think they are better than other men because they belong to a certain denomination. Mans original sin is based in judgment of God in the garden of Eden when man decided through the deception of Satan that "The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil" was good for food, was pleasant to the eyes and desirable to make one wise. The problem has existed since the beginning and his been pointed out by Columba, Wiclif, Bonhoeffer, Spurgeon, Calvin, Wesley, Luther and others.
Consider that in Christianity, that 90% of believers fail to share their faith with another throughout their whole lifetime. This fact crosses denominational boundaries and includes the autonomous non-denominational as well. It's no wonder when people choose church for comfy seats, music, socio-economic position and other non-eternal reasons. Think I'm making this up? I truly wish I was wrong and that none of what I stated was true.
The church is the real mission field and although the workers are few, those of us that claim to know the truth as revealed in scripture must at least attempt to show unity by cutting through the hyperbole of history and popular opinion. My motivation is based at the judgment seat of Christ were Jesus said;
"Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ "
Sounds like He is talking about church folk here and not unbelievers but those who say they are believers and practice their doctrine.

The Christian Pedestal II...
I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
So the next time you hear someone say "Jesus Christ" meant as a swear word you can add;
- Is The truth, The Way and The Life
- Was the Son of God
- Was a Jew
- Is the Word
- Is the Savior of all mankind
- Has the ability to forgive sins
If you are unsure about what to say try praying before you start your day and ask God to give you the words to say and the opportunities to share His love and words with others throughout the day.

The Christian Pedestal...
They put you on a pedestal that separates you from the rest of the people they know. Most people respect God but don't think much about Him. They use God's name as a swear word and don't even realize they are doing it. Whenever I become party to new people in my life whether through work, social or neighborly. I always confront blasphemous speech whenever I hear it come from their mouth. The result 9 times out of 10 is the person using God or Jesus Christ's name as a swear word will catch themselves the next time; look at me and apologize for it's use.
I think that person has now entered the ability to be conscious of their speech they have become aware of what they are saying and respecting another persons belief and conviction. If you are a believer and do not know how to confront others about their blasphemous speech which should cause your ears to hurt when you hear it. Here is how I do it and 9 times out of 10 they respect me for my correction of their language.
Your having a conversation perhaps in a group or one on one and someone decides to use God's name as a swear word. I always interject and ask them if they know what they just did. Usually they will ask what it is they did. Here's an example of how it might transpire.
Person. This God damn weather is not letting up
Me. Do you know what you just did?
Person. What did I just do?
Me. You used God's name as a swear word there are many other more appropriate swear words that can be used that do not blaspheme God's name.
Person. Really what did I say?
Me. You said "God damn" when you could have used thousands of other swears that do not blaspheme God's name. God is higher than our highest thought and we should respect His name don't you think?
Person. Hmm never really thought about in fact I didn't even realize I did it.
Me. What is your Mom's name?
Person. (curious look) Her name is Jane.
Me. Would you ever use your Mom's name as a swear word?
Person. No
Me. And you wouldn't like others doing that either would you?
Person. No
Me. Have you ever heard of the Ten Commandments?
Person. Sure who hasn't
Me. Do you know any of them?
Person. Yes, you shall not kill, shall not steal, etc.
Me. Those commandments were giving to use as guide to recognize wrong doing and number 3 is You shall not take the Lord's name in vain for the Lord will not hold him blameless who does it.
Person. Never thought about it sorry
Me. How about commandement number 9 you shall not lie ever done that in your whole life?
Person. Ya sure who hasn't?
Me. And what do you call a person who lies?
Person. A liar
Me. What about number 8 it says you shall not steal, ever done that no matter how small the item?
Person. Yes
Me. And what do you call a person who steals?
Person. A stealer
Me. Or?
Person. A thief
Me. So by your own admission you are a blaspheming, lying, thief at heart and if God judges us on the Ten commandments would you go to heaven or hell?
Person. I guess it would be hell
Me. Does that concern you?
You have now opened that persons heart to hear the gospel tell them your testimony why you believe in God. What God did for you, how God helped you to believe, how God showed you that He is real. Ask if they have a bible if they do not get them one and you have now told someone about your faith.
Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron from "The Way of the Master" use this technique when witnessing on the street to total strangers. Find out for yourself click on the link and hear them witnessing to strangers using the "Ten Commandments"

The Bad Christian Project...
Calling all God's people everywhere...
Get involved in the "The Bad Christian Project" make a difference in your faith today and learn about the history of Christianity. Here is brief synopsis of how it all went down...
Once upon a time there was this little Roman Emperor named Nero. You know the guy that played the fiddle while Rome burned. Nero wanted to rename Rome under his name and started the fire. He blamed the Christians for the fire and wholesale persecution started. With thousands and thousands of Christians dying for something they never did. Then about 250 years later along came another Emperor named Constantine. Who was best known for being the first Christian Roman Emperor. Under Constantine Christianity moved from a persecuted belief to a persecuting religion literally overnight.
Then about 1200 years later along came a simple German monk named Martin Luther who started the great reformation and the split from the Roman Catholic church. Protestantism was born. Fast forward to today 2010 there are currently 38,000 Christian denominations that are not supported by scripture yet they exist. My question is why do we allow this when it is clear in scripture we are to be united?
The Bad Christian Project is a fairly large effort that will need the cooperation and unity of many Christian folk right across the world. The whole idea stems from the fact that Christianity is divided by denominational divergence and that we as believers in Christ can work together to make a difference in our belief. And further the great commission to make disciples of all the world. Starting here in North America and moving as far as God will allow the project to reach. That we can break down the barriers of denomination by participating in a project that makes a bee-line to the message of Jesus Christ.
The project itself is a grassroots movement that can help raise awareness to the fact that Christianity in the beginning was a persecuted belief. And that persecution of that belief still happens in many parts of the world Today. Maybe it happens right in your own church or neighborhood. The project will focus on how denominational divergence started and how we as grassroots believers in Jesus Christ can stop the spread of sectarianism in Christianity and get back to the basics of why Jesus came and offered salvation to a dying world.
I am asking people of faith from every denomination these questions...
1. Do you think that God sent Jesus Christ to the earth to set-up a new religion called Christianity? If yes... Where in scripture would you find that Jesus was to start a new religion called Christianity?
2. What denomination did Jesus and the Apostles belong too?
3. Will Jesus find faith on the earth when He comes on the great and final day?
Also I would like to receive any footage from anywhere that shows believers being persecuted for their belief in Jesus Christ. This footage could include folks who have been excommunicated for any type of reason from any denomination.
People needed;
- Prayer Warriors to pray continually for the project from start to finish.
- Amateur/Professional Film Makers - Who have DV style camera's right across the world who would be willing to shoot footage in their cities and send it in to me for consideration in the film.
- People that can help with production, graphics, website, computer animations, posters and as general lobbyists to gain support from the Christian community in their geographical locations.
- Film industry people who would give their talents to help make the film look professional and help with distribution.
- Musicians/Song Writers/Artists/Actors/Actresses et al that would be willing to contribute their talent through song, poetry, prose, painting and any and all art-forms that excite the senses.
- Donations of money, time, talent for every aspect of this creation.
Folks I am just a small believer with a big dream that is based in scripture. If God is for us, who can be against us? And that despite the huge problems that the current 38,000 Christian denominations have caused. We as believers despite our denominational differences can one day walk into any Christian church that professes Jesus Christ as Lord and be accepted. Just as Jesus accepts us into his body and that we can be one just as the Father and Son are one. Is this not the prayer that Jesus prayed for all believers?
JOHN 17: 20-26
"My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. "Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."
May...
The Lord bless and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up his countenance upon you,
And give you peace.

Dialogue and the Blogger...
There are five solas that emerged during the reformation period and are the basis used by most to test, discern and understand what's being said in a conversation about Christianity. They are;
- Sola scriptura ("by scripture alone")
- Sola fide ("by faith alone")
- Sola gratia ("by grace alone")
- Solus Christus or Solo Christo ("Christ alone" or "through Christ alone")
- Soli Deo gloria ("glory to God alone")

Hello Joshua,
I hope you don't mind answering a couple of questions I am asking all believers everywhere;
Do you believe that God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to start a new religion called Christianity?
And if yes. Where is the text in the bible that supports the popular Christian belief that God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to start a new religion called Christianity?

Hi, MAC.
No, I don't believe God sent Jesus to start a new religion called "Christianity." I would object to that idea on two counts. First, Jesus didn't start anything new. Rather, he completed what was promised/predicted in God's covenants with Abraham, David, and the nation of Israel. Second, the name "Christianity" isn't part of God's intention, best I can tell from the Scriptures, although it does fit for a faith that centers on Jesus the Christ.
Interesting question.
Blessings,

Hi Josh,
So if there is no scriptural evidence that proves Jesus was sent to start a new religion called Christianity. Do you think there is a danger for all the denominations at the judgment seat of Christ?
Consider; Matthew 7
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
Sounds like Jesus is talking about church folk here.

MAC,
The Sermon on the Mount - of which Matthew 7 is a part - was addressed to Jesus' disciples, yes. But "Christian" denominations came well after Jesus' return to heaven, so it's hard for me to see how this passage "is a danger for all the denominations." What are you driving at?

Josh,
The point is apparent in the text and the words of Jesus. He warns against self-deception and a mere verbal profession of his Lordship without obedience to the word of God. Regardless of when denominational divergence came it is completely outside the will of God.
Consider Jesus' prayer at
JOHN 17: 20-26;
Sectarianism is sin and for salvation to be full we must repent of our sin fully.
Do you think there is a danger for all the denominations at the judgment seat of Christ if they have not repented of their sin?
12/10/2009 7:24 PM
OK, MAC, now I think I see where you're coming from. Yes, I agree that sectarianism is sin, and anyone who willfully persists in sin is headed down a dangerous road. But something about your comments makes me think you and I might not agree fully on some of the points you're raising.
For one thing, no one merits salvation by his/her perfect repentance. In fact, if Jeremiah 17:9 is true, we literally cannot repent fully for all our sin because we don't understand our own heart and its wickedness fully. Thankfully, we aren't saved by repentance. We are saved by Jesus; and the really good news is that His death atones for both the imperfect lives and the incomplete repentance of repentant sinners who look to Him in faith.
In addition, I still don't see how denominations are in jeopardy at the judgment. Speaking practically, how would that work? I mean, how would Jesus punish a denomination? ...or reward one? Don't you think, rather, that PEOPLE are judged, not denominations (and other organizations)?
And finally, how would you suggest Christians handle doctrinal error in their midst? My question aims to make the point that sectarianism is not the only way to be unbiblical in how we relate to other Christians. Embracing a false gospel is a sin as grievous as sectarianism, don't you think?

Hi Josh,
If, is pretty weak language my friend. The Lord knows the heart, He tests the mind.
Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed it is our helper against the deceitfulness of the heart.
Repentance is the key ingredient my friend. If you do not repent you are not saved. Jesus could die one thousand times and you would still not be saved unless you repent. God commands us to repent. For Godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation. You can find that in 2 Corinthians.
Notice the progression from repentance to salvation.
Here are some more verses on repentance for you to consider Josh.
Mark 2:17
Luke 13:1-9
Acts 3:19-20
Acts 17:24-31
2 Corinthians 7:10
Denominations are about money, bucks and cash. I challenge denominations to give up their tax status and make there business about Salvation through repentance for real.
People make up denominations and not everyone in any particular denomination is not saved for real. Remember the parable of the wheat and the tares you can find it at Matthew 13:24-30
Embracing a false gospel as you have plainly shown here. By your thankfulness that you don't need to repent to gain your salvation is definitely a problem.
My mission is to the church and my intentions are completely solicitous towards denominations.
12/10/2009 10:12 PM
MAC,
I agree with you that repentance is required as part of a saving response to the gospel. Turning from sin, recognizing Jesus' Lordship, the whole enchilada. No quarrel from me there.
Your answers to my other two points aren't clear to me. I realize that not every person in every Christian denomination is a genuine believer, but I don't see how that applies to your question about whether denominations are in danger at the judgment. How can Jesus punish a denomination?
I also didn't understand your answer to my question about how Christians should handle false teaching in their midst.

Josh,
I will answer both questions in sequential order.
Denominational judgment, in the book of Revelation there are seven (7) churches mentioned. Although there are currently thousands of Christian denominations. They are commonly referred to as "The Seven Churches Of The Apocalypse"
Of those seven most Christian denominations will fall into one of the seven. Unless they are a cult.
1. The Loveless Church is instructed to; "Do the works you did at first" and the criticism is; Love for Christ no longer fervent. 2:1-7
2. The Persecuted Church is instructed to; "Be faithful until death" No criticism. 2:8-11
3. The Compromising Church is instructed to; "Repent" and the criticism is; tolerates immorality, idolatry and heresies. 2:12-17
4. The Corrupt Church is instructed that; "Judgment is coming and to keep the faith" and the criticism is; Tolerates cult of idolatry and immorality. 2:18-29
5. The Dead Church is instructed to: "Repent and strengthen what remains" and the criticism is; It's a dead church. 3:1-6
6. The Faithful Church is instructed to; "Keep the faith" no criticism. 3:7-13
7. The Lukewarm Church is instructed to; "Be zealous and repent" and the criticism is it is indifferent. 3:14-22
These churches are representative of the churches at the time and all subsequent generations. Any church can chose to be "The Faithful Church".
My message is to repent and turn from sectarianism which is sin. My challenge is to give up your tax status and make your business Christ centered not about money. Make it about love to see others saved.
False teaching is problematic and has much to do with indifference, ignorance, laziness, sloth and the fact that not many Christians or professing Christians actually read the word of God. Make God first above all things in your life.
Consider the walk of a true believer. 2 Peter 1:5-11 shows the walk of the true believer of Jesus Christ. Add to your Faith Virtue, to Virtue Knowledge, to Knowledge Self-control, to Self-control Perseverance, to Perseverance Godliness, to Godliness Brotherly Kindness, to Brotherly Kindness Love.
I'm still on perseverance and I started nine years ago.
Exhortation to live up to the calling that Christ called us too. Help others with their ministry's. There are numerous ways get involved do something. Don't sit on your hands get up and do something right now. Feed the poor, start a savings group that teaches poor people to save money. Be socialist like Jesus was.
I could go on and on but I'm not going to. I'm sure you got the picture.
May...
The Lord bless and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up his countenance upon you,
And give you peace.
12/10/2009 11:33 PM
Amen!
12/11/2009 9:19 AM
Josh,
Another way to get around false teaching is to understand the existence of the law. The law was designed to show us our short comings as we attempt to enter the Kingdom of heaven. And to create the Godly sorrow that must exist for salvation to works in us and through us to those who would hear us on the topic.
12/12/2009 8:59 AM
What the HECK?
1/27/2010 12:38 PM
Yep. My thoughts exactly.
1/27/2010 12:46 PM
I guess talking about Christianity is something that makes you say a watered down version of WTF.
Anonymous you may as well go all the way next time nobody knows who you are anyway. Unless you are, nah!
Josh I asked questions you asked questions. We had dialogue. But all along you didn't care about what we are talking about. Is that what you mean by "Yep. My thoughts exactly."?
