The Industry of Worship...

I came across this video today while searching for answers to my questions I am asking all believers everywhere;

Do you believe that God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to start a new religion called Christianity?

And if yes. Where is the text in the bible that supports the popular Christian belief that God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to start a new religion called Christianity?

It's a short video by author Brian McLaren that discusses art, propaganda, and the worship industry.

May...

The Lord bless and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up his countenance upon you,
And give you peace.

MAC, I replied to your question about this on my blog. Sorry for the delay. For some reason I didn't get notification of your comment until today.

Just to let you know how I was raised...my parents believe Baptists are the one true religion (not all Baptists...just the ones they agree with) because John the Baptist was the foreteller of Jesus. They actually believe that the Baptist religion was started with John the Baptist.

I however, believe differently, and thank God that He has answered my prayers for knowledge and understanding of His word.

May God's light always shine upon you!

yeah, you can't go too far wrong posting some brian mclaren if want to open up some dialogue about where the church must needs be today in order to share the light of Christ with others.

i read your profile and took from it that you are a worship leader and a film maker... what does this piece say to you, mac?

see, it would be neat to hear where this vid on art, propoganda and the gospel has taken you in your thinking, rather than just the questions that have arisen in your mind (prompted by the video?) as to what Christ was really going for.

those are my thots- i'd like to hear more of yours :)

(note: i got tripped up early on in the blog game by the unfortunate profile phrase :religious industry. i commented a bit on it in this early post:

Hi Faithie,

Thanks for the post and I also left a post on your blog. May God bless you further in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Hi jollybeggar,

My thoughts are the whole of mainstream Christianity as a belief in the redemption seat of Christ. Focuses little on the fact that we as believers are called first to repentance.

Repentance is the key ingredient in the recipe of redemption. If you do not repent you are not saved. Jesus could die one thousand times and you would still not be saved unless you repent.

God commands us to repent. For Godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation. Notice the progression from repentance to salvation.

Here are some further verses on repentance to consider;

Mark 2:17
Luke 13:1-9
Acts 3:19-20
Acts 17:24-31
2 Corinthians 7:10

The whole of my ministry is focused on the repentance of denominational divergence that is the biggest problem we face as believers in Christ. Yesterday, today and possibly tomorrow.

jollybeggar,

I guess I should answer your question better!

For me there is a conflict also. I have learned more about the duality of man leading worship then I have any other activity in my life.

I have dealt with the 'hey look at me syndrome' to the 'we are not going to follow you syndrome'. But really as an artist/musician what people don't realize is. That I trade my negative energy for their positive energy.

So if the show sucked then it was them that sucked not me. If we are common which I believe we all are. Then within that commonality is where we find the spark to go to the next level.

So its not me but them that can make it happen. My art or music is the conduit if you will that helps penetrate the barrier. The barrier that holds us back on an everyday type of level.

Because I know after a truly spiritual worship experience it is a feeling that is unbelievable, undeniable and joyous moment. The first one I ever had was sitting on my freezer in the basement of my house praying with five other men. I began praising God like I had never experienced before.

It was an unforgettable experience and I had no instrument in my hand or mic in my face either. so worship is not just singing it could be praying in the spirit of the moment as well.
